Auction sites on WordPress usually start with one plugin that handles standard English auctions and very little else. CozyAuctions goes much further. It is a WooCommerce theme that supports five different auction formats, multi-vendor selling and live catalogue sales – a feature set that covers everything from a charity gala to a procurement portal.
The easiest way to understand what it can do is to look at each format in turn.
Standard auctions
The classic model, done properly. You get reserve prices, a Buy Now option, proxy bidding (the system bids on the buyer’s behalf up to their maximum) and anti-sniping, which extends the auction when a bid lands in the final seconds. Buyer’s premiums and bidding deposits are supported too, which is what separates a serious auction house setup from a hobby project.
Sealed-bid auctions
Bidders submit without seeing each other’s offers. You can configure how and when bids are revealed. This works well for property, vehicles and high-value lots where open bidding can push people into odd behaviour.
Dutch auctions
The price drops over time until someone buys. CozyAuctions handles the automatic purchase when a buyer accepts the current price. Good for clearance stock, perishable goods or flash sales.
Reverse auctions
Sellers bid down instead of buyers bidding up. This is the format for procurement – a company posts a requirement and suppliers compete on price. Having it inside the same theme means one platform can serve both consumer and B2B use cases.
Penny auctions
Credit-based bidding, where each bid costs a credit and raises the price by a small amount. It is a niche model, but if you want it, it is built in rather than bolted on.
Selling as a marketplace
Every format can run in a multi-vendor setup. Sellers get a front-end dashboard with KPIs, sales charts and statements, and you choose commission rates site-wide, per category or per seller. When an auction closes, the winner’s order is created automatically and goes through the normal WooCommerce checkout, so payments, emails and order management all behave the way store owners already know.
The live sale room
For timed catalogue sales there is a live sale room with an auctioneer’s console for managing lots. This is the feature that makes CozyAuctions viable for traditional auction houses moving online – antiques, art, classic cars, estate sales.
Eighteen designs
The included designs are named for the jobs they suit: Maison and Galerie for fine art, Motorlot for vehicles, Estate for property and house clearances, Tender for procurement, Penny Arcade for penny auctions, Charity Gala for fundraising, plus general-purpose options like Classic, Modern, Flat and Marketplace. Picking one that matches your market gets you most of the way to a finished site.
Technical notes
WordPress 6.5+, WooCommerce 8.0+, PHP 7.4+ (8.2+ recommended), and compatibility with both classic and block checkout. The theme includes complete translations for 20 languages across more than 3,200 strings.
Bottom line
CozyAuctions is the most flexible auction option I have come across for WooCommerce. One theme covers five auction formats, a vendor marketplace and a live sale room, with a lifetime licence and 12 months of developer support. The single-site licence was €199 at the time of writing.
